Many of us have become accustomed to using the U.S. Department of Education’s “Recent Resolution Search” page to find resolution agreements and letters going back more than a decade. The search function allows users to use a keyword search and to narrow down the cases by date, type of discrimination, applicable statute, institution type, and state.
After the presidential transition in 2025, this particular website was not updated. The Department has undergone a lot of change, including the closure of most regional OCR offices, layoffs, and early retirement incentives. In March the President issued an Executive Order aimed at dismantling the Department.
On July 8, 2025, the Recent Resolution Search page was updated to include all resolved cases to date. Prior to July 8, the site showed only eight (8) case resolutions in 2025, all published before the presidential inauguration. As of July 8 there are now 53 published cases.
Of those 53 cases, 35 cases are about disability discrimination, 12 relate to race and national origin discrimination, and 6 are about sex discrimination. The press releases issued by the Department through this spring have focused on race and national origin discrimination (antisemitism, mascots and logos) and sex discrimination cases (transgender athletes in sex-separated athletics). Despite more than 60% of the resolved cases this year relating to disability discrimination, the Department has not yet published a press release about any of those resolved cases.
Grand River Solutions is reviewing these newly-published materials and will summarize the practical takeaways in a future article.
