Title VI Obligations for New York State Higher Education
Title VI Training for NY State
New York State has enacted the nation’s first law requiring public and private colleges and universities to designate a Title VI Coordinator and implement annual notification, training, and recordkeeping obligations tied to race, color, and national origin discrimination. This four-hour session provides higher education leaders with a clear overview of the law’s requirements and effective dates, explains how the Title VI Coordinator role compares to existing Title IX structures, and highlights the practical steps campuses must take to prepare.
Participants will gain actionable strategies for designing or adapting organizational models, building policies and processes, delivering meaningful training to students and employees, and maintaining compliant records. Drawing on our extensive experience with New York’s Education Law Articles 129-A/B framework, the session also explores best practices and tools already available to support compliance, positioning institutions to meet the new mandate efficiently and proactively.

- Legislative background and timelines
- Key Title VI Coordinator responsibilities and training obligations
